Turn resistance to change (yours and your team’s) into an advantage, not a brake.
Communicate a restructuring without losing your team’s trust; lead a transformation when you yourself have doubts; hold the course when pressure demands immediate results.
According to McKinsey research, roughly 70% of organizational transformations fail — and of those, most fail not because the strategy was wrong, but because of unsupportive management behavior or unmanaged employee resistance. John Kotter's 8-step model exists because most change efforts skip steps under time pressure: leaders jump straight to communicating the vision without first building enough urgency or a coalition strong enough to sustain it. But the deeper reason resistance shows up isn't tactical, it's emotional. William Bridges' Transition Model makes the distinction that matters: change is the external event, but transition is the internal psychological process people have to go through — letting go of the old way, surviving a confusing in-between, and only then genuinely starting the new one. Skip the middle phase and the "resistance" you're seeing is often just people who haven't finished letting go yet.
Why resistance to change is information, not an obstacle → the 3 phases every change goes through.
